Yellowstone is the oldest national park in the world established by the government in 1872. Yellowstone is named after the yellow rocks that lie in part of the Yellowstone river. The park covers 2,200,000 acres. 2.5 million people visit Yellowstone yearly. There is more than 450 miles of roads and over 1,000 miles of trails. Yellowstone is famous for its natural wonders. The park has the most geysers and hot springs than any other area. Also, it has more than 300 active geysers and thousands of hot springs. Most of Yellowstone's landscape was created by volcanic eruptions 600,000 years ago. The scenic attractions include deep canyons, thundering waterfalls, sparkling lakes and amazing evergreen forests broken up by rolling meadows.
